Preventative Care & Advice for Cataracts
Cataracts are one of the most common conditions affecting individuals over age 65. We offer preventive care and advice to help delay the onset of cataracts, as well as care of the patient requiring cataract surgery. Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens in the eye. The result of your natural lens becoming clouded is blurred vision. When the blurriness from a cataract is bad enough to affect the quality of your life, or prevents you from driving, it is time consider cataract surgery. We work with only the finest surgeons in our area who offer state-of-the-art surgeries. Cataract surgery can restore your vision to a level you have not had in years.
Cataract Vision Example
Today there are many options to consider when having cataract surgery. The surgery that is fully covered buy insurance will allow you to have clear vision but will leave you more dependent on glasses. There are now options to significantly reduce your need for glasses by choosing a premium lens implant. Further, cataract surgery can now be performed using lasers to do more of the procedure. This shortens the recovery time while being more precise. There are now several options to chose from, and we would love to help guide you in making the best decision for you and your circumstances. Our role is helping you determine the best cataract procedure for you, and assisting you in selection of a great surgeon. We perform the pre-operative and post-operative care for you, all seamlessly coordinated with the surgeon.
We work with primarily with four respected cataract surgeons in our area, Dr. Greg Spencer, Dr. Robert Maloney, Dr. Neda Shamie, and Dr. Paul Dougherty to deliver advanced vision correcting procedures for your cataract. We invite you to read Dr. Maloney and Dr. Shamie’s book on cataract removal. This book, in conjunction with our consultation, will help guide you in making the best choice for you. We have copies in our office for those considering surgery. We have provided cataract care for 30 years, so you can rely on our experience to ensure your cataract is removed at the most appropriate time, and you get the best possible results.
Options for Cataracts
- Multifocal Lenses – Allows for vision near intermediate and distance (more likely to cause some distortion at night).
- Extended Range Lenses – Allows for an extended range of focal distances without the distortion see with the full multifocal. Generally, requires a modified monovision to get from far to near vision.
- Astigmatism Correcting Implants – Corrects for astigmatism thus decreasing need for glasses.
- Standard Implant Lenses – Generally fully covered by insurance. They have good optics but require supplementation with glasses.
- Monovision Correction – One eye’s lens implant sees far and one sees near. This is a good option for some people but does reduce depth perception and night vision.
- Light Adjustable Lenses – Allows for the lens power to be adjusted or fine tuned after it is implanted. This allows for more flexibility and the ability to fine tune the lens strength after the surgery.
